In HTML mails links are rendered using a link text, the link itself is embedded in the link element and not visible to the user in many cases. Our mail fallback for non-html mails is to remove all the HTML tags and replace some of the formatting like line breaks. However, our filter is a bit too aggressive as it also removes the link attribute and thus the most important information is removed from the mail.
The goal is to fix this and to generally improve the plain-text formatting:
- Add line breaks before and after header tags
- Add line breaks before and after list blocks
- Add a-element href attribute when it is an absolute link
